Guys,

I need some help! I've been busy getting my Custom Turkey Call business going, so I haven't been here too much the past few months. To hectic!

Anyway, I need to locate some Curly Maple boards 4/4 x 5" wide anywhere from 2' to 4' long

Also some Osage Orange and Pecan 1" square by 8" for each striker and I need to make about 20 strikers, so about 10 each.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Kurt,

I've got about 30 Pecan bowl blanks. Could you use one of those for your calls?
Also...my lumber supplier has curly maple.....$3.50 BDFT Kiln dried.

Oh yea, the bowl blanks around about 14" to 18" across. :D

$3.50 per board ft for curly maple? Thats a really good price.

Yup....my supplier has good prices (comparitively speaking) but if I'm willing to stack, sticker, and dry my own wood, I can get a lot of wood for under $1.00 BDFT. I have to go pick up about 300 BDFT of 4/4 Pecan that's waiting for me now. I have to stack, sticker, and dry this, but it was 80¢ BDFT.

I got your PM Gary.....check yours. ;)

Hey Curt, I don't know about curly maple but with me owning a cabinet shop I know hwat kind of scrap they generate, try looking at a local cabinet shop most of the time they have scrap they will give you to get it out of the way.

Good question Travis. But, I have seen a little "flatwork" stuff in your shop before. ;) Just that now, all your flatwork looks "round". :p :D

Dennis,

Thanks for the offer on the pecan. A guy over at the Custom Calls web site has 20 1" pecan dowels - so I am covered with that.

Kevin Gersty(too many letters) is fixing me up with some Osage.

If you could give me th econtact info. for the curyl maple, that'd be great!

Hey travis! how's it going. Remember that many things can be turned from "Flat Work" stock - Like my turkey call pots for one!

I went by a turner's shop after eating a big fresh fried catfish plate this afternoon and he said a guy was cutting down 40 pecan trees, and I could have all I wanted. He had 3 trees about 30 inches in diameter and 12 ft. long on his trailer and told me to get all I wanted. I told him I appreciated the offer, but I had all I needed. Sorry I could not help you on the pecan.
PS He did say why did I not come by before I ate the catfish and take him with him?

I knew you were ribbing ol' D - just had to throw a jab atcha for old time's sake!

Been making Calls & Pens. Been doing workshop pencils for a gal at work. Those things are really fun to do.
