I'm embarrased. I broke the fiberglass handle out of my 8# splitting maul.

How do I get the old epoxy/fiberglass out of the head so I can put a new handle in?

If the adhesive is really epoxy, then heat will soften it enough for you to pound out the remaining handle. If you have a "heat gun" this will be what you will want to use to apply the heat to the area. One other thing is to drill aound the perimeter with a 1/2" drill bit and then scrape/file out the opening to make ready for a new handle. It's not one of my favorite things to do, but one has to do what one has to do. :D

There is probably very little fiberglass in the handle, the majority is probably resin and it will burn like gas. Throw it in a bon fire for a few minetes.
