Last one from this weekend. Crotch Walnut, 11" diameter by 1" deep, buffed Antique oil finish. I sure wish Walnut was more plentiful around here! :(

You brought the best out in that awesome hunk of wood. I really like the "extra" rim detail!

That is awesome. I tried making one of those myself a few weeks ago, of coarse I yeilded nothing, but I am a newbie. That's what us newbie's call inspiration.

How thick was the wood when you started?

I have some more 1" thick rough cut offs and will try a platter again soon (as soon as I finish my flatwork projects)

Chris, I slabbed it 2-3 inches thick with the chainsaw.

Travis I think this one would make another great Wall hanging, after all it is Walnut. Great job, great wood.

Wow, Travis beautifully done. Started out with a really nice piece of wood, but you did a great job on the form.

Nice, Travis!. All the walnut I presently have is much darker than that, and while some has some nice figure, nothing that pretty. Good job.

Another beauty, Travis.

Shame you don't live around here. I have to turn Walnut down; there are so many offers, I can't use it all.

Wonderful piece! I just finished a walnut platter today too. Kinda wish you'd had done it. If you're lookin' for walnut, I know a place about 2 miles from my house that has 700 tons of it. ;)

Another pretty one, Travis! Yup, I'd like to see a more plentiful supply of walnut as well; maybe I'm not looking in the "right" places yet...

You really know how to bring out the best in a hunk of wood. Beautiful platter. Well done.
