"Amazon has the Delta 28-475 x X5 saw on sale right now. for $999.00. It also comes with the riser, mobile base and a magnetic work light. There is also a Delta $100.00 rebate and free shipping. Seems like a decent deal.

Not affiliated etc."

Is this a good deal on this saw, and is this saw worth it or should I wait for the 16/18 inch I really want. From what I can tell this saw will do what I want, at least for the next few years. Comments and suggestions?

For that price you could get a Rikon 18" right now at Woodcraft. What 16/18 inch saw are you waiting for?

Since an 18" is still a year off I had not made up my mind yet. Leaning toward the MinMax though. I have read mixed reviews on the Rikon so am unsure on that. Do you have the Rikon? If you do what is your impression of it? Thank you for the reply, it is much appreciated.

iirc, rockler had the powermatic 14" for $899 yesterday. I think berlands was $999 for the powermatic also.

I have the 18" Rikon. I'm happy with it. I primarily use it for cutting bowl blanks and general curve cutting and it works great for that.

The main "con" is that the fence is crappy. If I ever get into resawing, I'm going to make a new fence.

I have the original Rikon and not the revised one. The main complaint I have heard of the new one is the tensioning mechanism and I can't comment on that. Setup is pretty easy and it didn't require any major tweaking to get good results. I am sure I could spend some more time on it and get it perfect but I haven't needed to so far to get acceptable results.

For mine, I have no complaints. I haven't done any real resawing with it but I have been happy with the cuts I have gotten so far doing everything short of that with the Timberwolf blades I bought when I got it (3/4" blades mostly).
