Does anyone here know where I can get my hands on some big pine cones? I am wanting to try making some pens out of them. I want to turm Cigar pens so they need to be big.

How big you want. I can take a look around the house and close by areas and see what I can come up with for you. Let me know how big. Never thought of turning a pine cone before, does it work?

Travis,

It does work, makes awesome pens too...note that all the outer part will be removed and only the core will be used.

Travis I would like the core to be at least 3/4" thick an at least 5 1/2 to 6"s long . If you can find a bunch I will buy them. Let me know. THANK YOU

I have seen pine cone pens, they really look nice. I only have small pine cones here. If you can find me some that would be wonderful>:)

I think what you are looking for might be Sugar pine, Coulter pine, or Digger pine. These are the largest pine cones I know of in NA.

Sugar pine can be found in some of the camping areas around Lake Tahoe. I believe Coulter and Digger (very similar) are found in California. You can probably google a range map for each on the internet.

I would like to see what a pen from a pine cone looks like. Can anyone post pictures?
