I don’t do a lot of turning (yet) :) but really enjoy viewing the great work here and learning for all the posts so I thought I would contribute. I’m not sure if this is a shallow bowl or a small platter but it is quilted maple 8.25” in diameter and 1.375” in depth. It has a couple of coats of BLO but still needs to be buffed. I’m thick skinned so any critiques are welcome. Dave

I opened this thread and immediately said "Whoa"!

For someone who doesn't do a lot of turning you sure knocked my socks off! Nothing to critique here. Absolutely stunning!

Dave...I think you're going to have to buff it a lot and get rid of all that swirly nonsense going on all over that wood!!! Holy Cow that's pretty!! Nice job.:)

Well, for someone who claims not to do much turning, you sure do hit the mark when you do get spinning!! Beautiful piece! Absolutely beautiful!

This is very nice. Good work. If that is a cross between a bowl and a platter, does that make it a blatter? :p Doesnt' sound very appealing with that name, maybe plowl would be better.;)

That wood is absolutely amazing, and the dark ring you have on it sets it off even more, great job! What is that black band made of? Is it a swirly epoxy? I really like the little white swirls.

Thanks Stephen, the ring is clear epoxy that I added graphite to turn it black, The swirls are aluminum chips from the drill press. Dave

That is really clever. Good work on the idea, and nice execution. Was the epoxy tough on your tools?

Very nice work. The inlay is excellent. I include alot of inlaid rings to items made from boring straight grained wood but you kicked a field goal adding the ring to a beautiful piece of wood.

Have a Super weekend.

Dave, with your talent you should do a lot more turning. This is a superb example of a platter.
