Trying for a southwest look with this piece.
It has Ambrosia markings along with a little curl and a lot of blue staining that I think adds some intrest in the colors.
Measures 8 1/2" wide X 4 1/2" tall
Buffed Antique Oil finish.

Beautiful piece Jim. I really like the form. That wood seems to have a awful lot of blue to it. Great job.

You never cease to amaze me. Thats one great piece. I just bought a piece of wood to try my first hollow form. Yours is with out a doubt an inspiration.

Been looking at a lot of Southwest forms to get an idea on something for my parental units. This just might be it. Great form Jim. For a while, I didn't like the blue stain, but lately, I'm really warming up to it. This is a nice piece...nicely executed. :)

John, also check the work of Paul Porter. Native American southwest forms are his signature style.

That is a real net looking HF. I think you did great. The wood looks nice. Do you happen to have a piece made out of that wood and finished so we could see what it would look like before staining? Nice job.

That is a beauty! Looks like it floats above the table.

Is the blue stain natural, or did you apply it?

Another great one Jim!

Reminds me of my favorite dish, blue corn enchiladas.

Keep em coming!

That's very cool Jim. Looks like you got the SW form pretty well nailed. What a surprise to find those colors in wood that is normally so light.

Thanks all for the complements!
Barry that wood was cut in the dead of summer very wet and green, sealed it with Anchorseal set them on the shelfs in my shop. some of them stained and some of them spalted and stained. I wish they would have remained clear but no such luck with this tree, but I'm starting to like the looks of some pieces so it's not all bad. Got to tear into the rest of my stock and see what I can come up with next.:D

Thanks for posting those extra pictures - they give me a better idea of what the stain did to the wood. Nice work.

Looks Southwestern to me. Somehow, I think the blue color contributes to the southwesterness. I like it.

Jim, you do great work. I was just wondering, did you have any problems with tear out on that piece. I'm in the middle of trying my first HF and I had a problem with tearout. I was able to get rid of most of it but there's still little specks. If I try to sand it out the thing starts to turn into an egg. Any sugestions?
