I finally finished the TV console. I'm pretty happy with it, mostly the design. It was a really tight fit getting the lift, TV, and all the cabling inside. The customer was very specific on the final size. After seeing it, she decided to send back her new couch and buy a new smaller one to show more of the console. The lift is from G&G Trade Corp and the TV is a 42" Sony plasma. Thanks for looking.

That is just awesome James! If the client is not happy with it, give me a hollar and I will take it:).

I would love to hear more about the construction and finishing of the console.

Thanks for the post!

Jim

What a great way to maintain your room's space and still have the TV. This is too cool. I like it much better than wall mounting. Great job.

James -

Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for posting that it was a G&G lift that you used. I have been looking for alternative lifts to use in a similar fashion and will check out the G&G.

Again, mucho nice work!

Wow. That's amazing. I'm new here, so I don't know if this is fair to ask, but how much did you end up charging? It's beautiful.

Excellent detail and finish. I have wanted to build one but the cost of the lift has held me back.

Lovely piece! Turned out wonderfully!

Now...I can see what the customer is trying to accomplish, but I'd find that couch "really distracting"... ;)

Great job --- It looks beautiful. I agree with Jim about the couch. It seems to me that the room needs to be rearranged, but I'm no interior decorater.

Cabinet is beautiful. The beauty of the piece is lost behind the couch though. Ugly couch imo so tell her to just scrap it and dedicate the space to your masterpiece.

That is cool and really solves a problem. Any chance for a photo of the guts?

That is absolutely beautiful and I love the idea.

I have a plasma over my fireplace and one in my bedroom. This design would be great for the one in the bedroom, but...

I have wanted to build one but the cost of the lift has held me back.

I looked it up on their website - the lift alone is $1273.50!!!

Think I'll keep the plasma on top of the dresser. :p

Be well,

Doc

P.S. - Just how do you watch that from the couch???

It's a bit misleading from the pics, but the TV is viewed from another couch and two chairs. Plus, the room opens to a large kitchen/dinette area. The couch in front of the TV is intended for entertaining without the TV on.

BTW, the prices on the G & G website are retail. With a business ID, you can get a better deal.

Here's the finish:

The wood is maple. It has 1 coat of Watco Dark Walnut Danish oil, 2 coats of Target Coatings EM8800 sealer, enough coats of Target Coatings gloss USL lacquer tinted with Transtint Dark Mission Brown to achieve the desired color, and 2 coats of clear Target Coatings semi-gloss for an outer barrier and sheen control.

Is that a couch or a pillow rack anyway it sure does a great job of hiding that awesome piece of furniture you built. I want one!

James,
Beautiful piece... for what the lift costs, I can pay someone to sit inside the cabinet and lift the TV up. :D

Nice work James. That is a downright impressive piece of furniture. Great details and a superb finish. Thanks a lot for sharing it with the masses.

Dave

p.s. Was that built for one of those rich folk in Ann Arbor? Just funnin' ya! It's none of my business, it's just that I had friends and relatives that went to U of M years ago and there were some "big bucks" in that area. Take care!

All the designs are too good. Especially the first one. It gives a prefect look to a room.

hhaaahhhaaahaaaa! I was waiting for someone to find a price, I knew it was gonna burst some bubbles. I think they've actually gone down in price too.
