Another smaller HF I've had roughed for a few weeks and finally got around to finishing. 5 3/4" tall by 4" diameter. The pinhead in me has to say that it has a buffed Seal-a-cell finish.:p

Is Coolibah anything like Mallee to turn (i.e. dense as concrete)?

It was pretty doggone dense Neal. Try a Manzanita root burl sometime, I think even concrete would be a pleasure to turn compared to that! :eek:

Absolutely gorgeous! I'm a newbie but I'd love to try something in a hollow form. Any chance you have a pic of the piece of wood that you started with? I really like the natural edge not to mention the wood itself. I'd like to know what to look for in a piece of wood to attempt a turning so beautiful. Also, a fantastic finsh I might add.:D

Travis, I've been meaning to ask you about this. It really sparks my curiosity that you wanted to do this with your Mini when you have a PM3520 as a "primary" lathe. Is there something about hollowing on the 3520 that is unsatisfactory that led you to make a rig for your Mini? (Or did you just need the extra option?)
