A friend found these for me at Pottery Barn.

A translucent blue piece backing a clear piece of Plexiglass 6" x 8" held together by 2 small powerful magnets. Each piece of plexiglass is a little over 3/8 thick. I engrave the back of the clear piece. I went to the store and bought their entire stock at $4 each.

These were meant to be picture frames where you place a 5x7 photo between the two pieces.

What do you think?

Very nice.... is there a manufacturers tag on the items. I'd love to get some but I'm wondering who makes them....

Thats a cool idea!! Makes a great looking plaque, and the price was right too.. Gives me an idea of what to do with some 'smoke' coloured acrylic someone gave me.. It would make a good backup for clear plexi too.. Mabe some nice brass carrage bolts/screws in the corners to sandwich them together..

You have hit on my wife's passion. Attached are some examples of acrylic picture frames "we" have made - I am the technical side, she the creative side. Basically two pieces of acrylic (.1" to .125" thickness) held together with screws or bolts.

Purchased a bag of rare earth magnets awhile ago, but have not had time yet to create the frame that Pete found.

Carol: Looks like Old Time Pottery got them from Linens & Things. There is a Linens & Things tag on them for $14.99.Made by MCS Industries Inc, Easton, PA 18045If you find out anything let us know.Old Time Pottery seemed to think they will get more. If anyone wants a few let me know I will see what I can do. I bet I could get 6 - 12 in a flat rate Priority mail box.

MCS is a wholesale frame manufacturer http://www.mcsframes.com But if the pottery place bought them surplus then they might be selling them below what it would cost to buy new ones wholesale from MCS. (just a guess)

We've put our soccer team's name on them and used them for team photos. MCS sells them for $4-$5 each. I got a login the other day to check on the prices. My wife and I bought a ton of them from the Old Time Pottery, too. That is obviously the best way to get these frames. We bought some back in October and again this past weekend. Old Time Pottery is selling the 4x6 and 5x7 frames for $3.99. There must have been about 30 of each frame when we checked on Saturday. There are also black backed frames in addition to the blue.

There are other acrylic magnetic frames that attach to a metal plate in both the portrait and landscaping mode. I think they look nicer than these other frames. They were only $2.99! We bought several of those, too. We made quite a few for Christmas presents!

Scott,

I don't think those are the same ones.

Is there an MCS part number on those blue/clear frames?

Maybe L00059

I see where my black background frames (4x6) have L00058 written on the front but the catalog has different numbers.

4x6 (Black) Sku # 30507 ($21.00 for a pack of 4)
4x6 (Clear) Sku # 30508 ($21.00 for a pack of 4)
5x7 (Black) Sku # 30511 ($29.60 for a pack of 4)
5x7 (Clear) Sku # 30512 ($29.60 for a pack of 4)
2.5 x 3.5 (Clear only) Sku # 30504 ($14.80 for a pack of 4)

These all come with an individual gift box.

It's still a better bargain at Old Time Pottery @ $3.99 for 4x6 or 5x7!!!

I didn't find the blue frames, though.

The blue frames are 6 x 8. They were meant to hold a 5x7 pic with some room around the edges.

Hey Pete!

I bought a bunch of the blue frames that hold the 5x7" photos but for some reason they don't have blue frames listed on the webpage. They only offer the black and clear. You might want to grab as many of the blues as you can. Maybe they are discontinuing the blue ones.
