I am reparing a wenge base for a coffe table. it is a semicircle of 1.5 x1.5 inch strips, It was first repaired with white glue which didn't hold at all well/ Anyone know of a better solution ?

Try Gorrilla Glue or another polyurethane. They are supposed to hold up well on oily exotics.

Polyurethane should work fine; its held up well for me on several projects involving wenge. Just make sure you remove all traces of the previously-used white glue.
