This first box was inspired by David Walser's post of the link to the particle board hollow form. This one is turned from a couple pieces of Trus Joist Microlam beam glued together. It's 3.75" diameter, 4" tall. It had a few voids that are filled with sawdust and CA. The more I sanded it the more the glue lines raised and the wood went away.

The second box is turned from the last little piece of trestlewood I scavenged from the Lucin Cutoff railroad trestle across the Great Sal Lake
http://www.trestlewood.com/documents/sources/lucin/lucin.html
The trestle has now been completely replaced by an earthen dike with concrete bridges over the Bear River inlet into the lake. This wood is Douglas Fir that stood in the Great Salt Lake for about 100 years soaking up the salt and other minerals that preserved it. The box is 2.5" by 2.5"

To me? Those are pretty. I like the way laminated wood shows up in turned wood. Great pieces Curt!!!

Beautiful and great history with them. My wife has had me turn a few boxes as gifts. She gives a small bag of fancy salt with them. Guess thats the thing in cooking right now. You don,t have to add salt, already in the box! Hope the history stays with the box. Skip

Curt,

Those are very nice. Tell me, on the first box, are there ridges where the glue lines stand proud of the softer wood? That might give the box and interesting texture.
