Very nice looking set!

Can I ask why you decided to get a bunch of Sorbys, as opposed to Henry Taylor, Hamlet, Crown, etc.?

Wow! Must have gotten a quantity discount? I looked and all that came to mind was that my roughing gouge must once have been that long. Amazing what feeding sand and crud to the edge for fifteen years can do to a tool. I wonder how many times I've sharpened him.

Come to think, both of my favorite hoggers are Sorbys. I've got a few more years on the 5/8 bowl gouge, so he's coming for replacement first. Also getting a little short in the tooth.

Get down and get 'em dirty now that you have the pictures of what they were. Probably be fun to compare twenty years hence.

Well... the reason I got them was that they were on sale here on sawmill! http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=50277
They are slightly used... some of them look like they've been sharpened once... if not less! If there was a set of crown tools or any other good brand on sale here I probably would have snapped those up too! :D:D (I think I calculated that all of those tools new would come to a total of something around $480)

Hmm...looks like you have a little flat work to do...making something to hold those nice new tools after you sharpen them up! Congrats on a very nice gloat!

I bought a Sorby 3/8" bowl gouge Friday. It was my first "good" turning tool. I can't believe the difference it makes. The thing acts like it knows where I want it to go.
