Anyone ever use a heat gun to strip paint? My son needs to strip and repaint roof trim. Would a heat gun work for this project?
Thanks

It will work but you have to be careful, you can burn the wood or even catch it on fire with a heat gun. There are now non-caustic gel paint removers that work well, you brush on, let sit, and it scrapes right off.

Lori,
Like Joe wrote the non-caustic gel is probably better and safer than a heat gun. I have used heat guns and movie lights to remove paint from metal objects and it works well but the fumes can be toxic, depending on the paint. The times I tried the heat gun on wood it scorched the wood, I was much happier with a chemical remover.

Ya gotta have a really good gun. I ise a propane or MAPP torch and it works famously.
