Can anyone tell me anything about this plane? It is an obvious Stanley #5 knockoff. The only markings are the words "Precision Bilt" on the lever cap and the top of the blade. Cast into the back edge of the body is "MADE IN U.S.A." It is a well built (bilt?) plane. The casting is true and robust and the frog is nicely machined. I've been using it for several years and it works well. I've search the internet and even ebay but can't find any reference to it.

I don't know much about planes, but if they couldn't afford a "u" for their name, how good could it be? :D

Chuck,
It looks like a sargent VBM to me- Maybe they made it. Is the frog cast or stamp steel. If it is cat I am sure it will be a good user.

Google doesn't approve of their spelling either. It gives me one of those "Did you mean Precision Built?"

Bob,
The frog is cast. It compares well to my Stanley #4 other than the length of course and it has been a good user -no complaints there. I'm just surprised that I can't find anything on it. I'll have to investigate your suggestion.

I guess winter has finally caught up to us in WPa. I'm in Greensburg.

Thanks,
-Chuck

Chuck,

How are the roads in Greensburg? I've got to travel to Irwin this evening from DuBois, PA. Debating whether to take 4 wheel or 2 wheel drive (significant gas savings with 2 wheel).

Thanks,

T.Z.

The roads are fine. It is cold and blowing snow but there is plenty of two wheel drive traffic out there. You shouldn't have any problem.

Good deal Tony. There's lots of salt to go around this year. They even salted the alleys in Greensburg. That almost never happens.

Have a good weekend.
