What type of glue?

Hi guys
I am putting hardwood flooring material on top of (2) MDF bases for a workbench.Would Regular yellow glue be ok to use?Any sugestions?I might even go with a solid core door for a base,I dont know yet(whatever is cheaper)I found a clearence box of oak flooring for 30 bucks,enough to do 21 sq ft table.

Hi Mark: I just finished my bench top replacement and nailed the oak flooring strips to the subbase. I screwed the first row from underneath to give a solid base and fired away with the nail gun. The last row was also screwed from underneath.

If you glue down, and the wood moves any, will you get splits/cracks/warping?

I would go with the MDF in a few layers as long as the top has good support. I used regular carpenters glue and this is what I'd recommend. I haven't had any noticeable issue with movement.

Hi Marc:

Which subbase? This is one of those projects that have grown over the years.

It started as a one layer 3/4 MDF; then another layer of same; then a layer of Southern Yellow Pine 2X8'x ripped into 1 1/2 strips and glued together with biscuits and screwed from underneath; finally I nailed the oak flooring into the SYP.
