Finally gave in. I've been picking up planes here and there with the idea of learning to really use them. And on little stuff they've been helpful. Trimming on a shooting board to make a part fit, trimming a shoulder, that sort of thing. But I haven't been convinced of my ability to really depend on them on a major project. I'm building a writing desk with a 46"x25" top and seriously considered making it in 2 parts so I could run it through my planer then glue those together. But instead I decided to bite the bullet and flatten the glued up panel by hand. After a serious aerobic workout with a #7 and #4, I'm convinced. And it just gets steeper.

Good job! I think with more practice and a bit of conditioning, you could make a habit of this. I'm sure the old-timers could go at it all day long! Now you deserve a nice cold one.
