View Full Version : Quick fix for plough blade chatter

As primitive at it looks....it works. Probably, really the only way to fix it anyway.

Seems to happen a fair bit, so I thought it be worth mentioning. Happened this arvo on a newly sharpened blade.......The plane was set for a fine cut (I thought)....yet.....chaaaattttttter.....marking up the wood....taking a coarse shaving....picture 1

Then I had a look at the blade up against the light.....explained the problem

Fix a lot of chatter problems this way.....same with moulding planes as well....in fact the old ploughs are ground with a bend in them to ensure the bevel is planted firmly on the bed if I recall correctly.

I might have spent hours grinding and flattening the blade. You solved the problem with a few taps of a hammer. Nice solution.
