View Full Version : DC seperator ?

Been thinking I'd like to try and make a separator for my portable DC unit (JDS Dustforce) and the two top sections I see for sale are for a 30 gallon and a 5 gal plastic pail.
I'd like to keep the foot print as small as possible, but I think the 5 gal pail may not work as well as a taller unit, so what I need is a tall 5 gallon pail...well...it'd be more than 5 gallons, but I need the 5 gallon top.
Ideally maybe something 4 foot tall ??

Short of making it myself, any suggestions?

These will both cut down on you CFM DAMHIKT. The large one does work.

Understand Tyler, but I only run one tool at a time and thinking/hoping it doesn't cause to much loss.

The only 5 gal I've seen (including the one I use for my shop-vac) takes 2 1/2" hose fittings. I'm not sure you want to throttle your DC down that much. I run a 30gal metal trashcan style with the type of lid Woodcraft sells. This type has the 90* elbow inside (under) the lid. The Jet version looks to be better designed but I don't know the cost difference.

Didn't mention it Glenn, but planning on modifing the 2 1/2" to 4" or making a complete top out of plywood or 1/4" aluminum, hadn't got that far as I figure I need a tall, smaller diameter pail/tube first.
This whole thing may end up more trouble than it worth, but it was a thought.
I had also heard there was a way to put a 30 gallon trash barrel under the DC instead of the plastic bag, that might be easier, but still doesn't keep them little chunks from getting to the impeller.

What I'm trying to do is mount the seperator on the back of the DC, so I can keep them together and take up less space.
