I have seen pictures of a couple of portable site saw tables which use a pull handle to move the saw through the wood. Does anyone know of any diy plans or articles to make one of these. Festool's prices are too high after having bought the saw.

Thanks

The only thing I've every seen that matches your description somewhat was some kind of saw table from Black and Decker, but it's been years since I've seen one. Any of the guided saw systems, IMHO, will do what you need, however. Festool, Easy-Smart, Rockler, etc., and all at various price points and various quality and capablities.

Thanks Jim. The sort of thing I was looking for is in this animation, http://www.festool.de/images/bilder/flash/cs70_gb.swf

It shouldn't be too difficult to sort one out, but as with most things, re-inventing wheels can use up a lot of time.

If you think Festool is expensive...http://www.mafell.com/produkte/prod_saegen_erika_60_i.htm
The Norsaw is as good as they get...

There was a company in VT that made a push/pull saw in the 70's but someone cut a major body part off and sued them closed. Craftsman also sold a similar saw in the 50"s. I suspect if you are looking for plans for such a saw you should just bite the bullet and buy one. Most of the cost would be in engineering such a saw. We make our own machines but we have a mchine shop and two of us have extensive machine repair experience. I've never seen plans for such a saw but it wouldn't be that difficult but it wouldn't be any cheaper than buying off the shelf. We typically make stuff that doesn't exist. Believe it or not there are more tools available today than 30 years ago and they are cheaper than they were 30 years ago.
