View Full Version : Bies Splitter for a PM66

I was thinking of purchasing a Bies Splitter for my 66, but I'm not quite sure if I want to go this route yet.

Currently I have one of the Delta Splitters (cost about $40), but I can only mount it to the saw if I drill the casting and I'm not sure if I want to do that. Plus it really doesn't leave any room for aligning the splitter behind the blade per different blades.

Which got me thinking. Does the Bies need to be drilled for the 66? Does it have built in adjusability?

I did some searching around the websites, but the only picture I keep seeing is the one from the top view. Does anyone have one (or can take one please) of how it mounts in the 66?

On your 66, there is a stud right behind the blade that holds the stock blade guard. That stud is adjustable left and right to line up with the blade. It is quite rugged and if you can use it, it does make a good place to mount a splitter. It is on the trunnion and tilts with it.

CPeter,

I saw you posted some pictures in an old thread.

but the pictures have since vanished. Any way of making them appear again?

I was thinking about that bolt though. As the biggest reason I want to incoperate a splitter like the Bies is cause I have a large outfeed table to build and I don't want to make the silly cut out for it.

Here is a link to an article that I wrote that mentions it. I am setting up a new computer, so it may take me a while to find the photo and post it.

Thanks for the pics!

Chris, If I am looking correctly, then the Bies mounts to the 66 using the old bolt hole for the splitter and the hole where the bar came out the back of the saw for the back side of the spliiter. Is this correct?

Also, Why is your Powermatic 66 Delta Grey. I know PM has used some different colors in the past, but not grey that I know of.

On my PM66, I had to file the stud down a little, not much. Also, the Bies splitter will not work with thin kerf blades. Regardless, I would definitely buy it again, albeit it is expensive.

You are correct that the Biesemeyer splitter uses existing holes in the saw.

As for why the saw is Delta gray. I first used this saw 32 years ago on my first job after high school. Last year the company sold me the saw. It was built in 1967 and was a mess. I remember when I was with the company, the carpenters would cut bricks & cement blocks with the saw.
So to make a longer story shorter. I am partial to Delta.
Attached is a picture of the complete saw.

Chris R.

That is one hell of a saw setup! I like the way you incorperated the router and DC collection together.

Hi Chris,

If you have the same Delta splitter that I do it can be modified to fit your saw without drilling the saw. Can you post a pic of your splitter?
