I came across some interesting software this morning and I thought I would share it here. Maybe someone would find it useful. It's called Creative Woodturner (http://www.creative-woodturner.com/index.php). It's an application that allows you to draw and edit a profile for a turned piece. It gives you an instantly updated 3D view as you edit and has provisions for dimensioning and applying textures. There are some demo videos on the site that give an idea of how it works.
I haven't tried it and probably wouldn't buy. I can do essentially the same thing in SketchUp and Creative Woodturner is limited to doing that spinny stuff. SketchUp is available for free and Creative Woodturner isn't but for the application, it might be worthwhile.
