I'm running low on belts for my 6x89 edge sander and looking for suggestions on who to get them from. Also, what grit do you use the most. Seems like 100 is the most useful.....

I use the blue belts (zirconia) and get them from Supergrit. I just re-stocked and only paid $7.50 for 100 grit 6" x 80" belts. Their regular belts run in the $6 range. I tend to use 80 grit the most with 60 grit running a close second.

Thanks Nik!

Those Zirconium belts, do they hold up better than Aluminum Oxide with steel? I'll sometimes use the sander for reshaping/de-nicking plane blades and chisels and the AO belts dull at a rapid rate.

They hold up way better!

I use an 80 grit to re-grind my chisels and plane irons. I just chuck them up in one of those cheapie roller jigs and go at it. In fact, I use 24 grit to clean up rusty planes. It will take out those ugly pits in no time. When I tried to do this with regular belts they just wouldn't hold up. I couldn't do one plane before the belt was worn out.

You will like them when sanding oily wood types as it won't burn as easy.

They are easily worth the extra buck or two.

Red Hill abrasives, on the web as supergrit.com, is a pretty good company. If you have some flexability on your needs, give them a call as they have some overstock, specials, etc., which may not be on the the web. Just got some 240 gtrip sheets, Mirka, A/O, for $11 for 50 sheet sleeve. Also, some 180 wet/dry SC, for flattening watershtones, for about the same price.

Industrial Abrasives (800) 451-1861
is my favorite as I buy for a commercial business. They have the lowest minumum for custom belts.
