Hey Guys,
I have a circa 1910 Stanley no. 78 which is in great shape although the Depth Gauge and screw for it are not there. If anyone is willing to sell these parts to me or can direct me to anywhere that has plane parts etc.. I would truly appreciate it. Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks for the replies Guys,
One small problem for me is that I am Canada. I was already at the website and had the parts in my cart, but when it was time for checkout, it Didn't have the option for Canada. Do either of you know if they will ship to Canada? I am sure they will but I am not sure how to make it happen.

Hi Kevin,
I'm not sure about shipping to Canada but I placed my order today and actually got a confirmation today which doesn't appear to be an automated email. You can send a message to customer service through the website at
http://www.stanleytools.com/default.asp?TYPE=STATICLEFT&PAGE=Support.htm&LEFT=left_support.htm
I'm guessing you'll get a prompt reply as well.

edited to add: Hoghland Woodworking also sells replacement parts but it comes in a kit with a lever cap

Call them.
It's been a while, so I don't know if Lori is still there or not, but if she is, she's the greatest asset that Stanley has. Great to work with for parts for older planes. 1-800-262-2161, Ext. 55839

St. James Bay Tool Co. has many Stanley replacement parts. Their website indicates that a depth stop and screw are $10 American. Check under "replacement Parts" on their website.

Make one, like I did for this Miller Falls. It don't have to be pretty to work.

Hi Kevin:
Nice pics and nice plane. You might consider posting on the Old Tools forum. Those guys have ratholes miles deep with parts and other stuff you might need.
Start here and follow the directions:

Did you restore the Stanley or buy it in that condition?

Hi Todd,
The plane was actually my grandfathers so it carries a bit of sentimental value. When he passed on my father ended up with it and I ended up cleaning it up. The japanning is original as is everything on it. Thanks for the link. I will check it out.

Kevin,
Try Walt Q. http://www.brasscityrecords.com/toolworks/toolindex.html
or Sandy Moss http://www.sydnassloot.com/tools.htm
They both seem to have a good supply of vinatge parts.

Seems whenever I find one of those it does not have a fence, but the knicker and depth setting is there.
