Birch and Poplar were used here but next time I plan to use wood with more contrast, but this was a test piece so all the wood came from the scrap bin … I was starting to feel guilty about the size of some of the contents in my scrap bin.

Eight coats of wipe on poly.

Thanks to all who helped me out with instructions.

That is sharp looking Brian! Are the corners mitered, or is that one long post/key at the corners?

Pete … no miters in the corners, it is one solid post. Here a link to the instruction.

You know...... as nice as the corners are, I'm just as pleased with your use of the knot in the lid. That's a perfect example of how a "flaw" in the wood can be used to accent a piece and become something beautiful.

Well done...

Mark has a great point. Wood is full of knots, pitch, worm holes, sap wood. I say "celebrate it all" and let wood be wood. Nicely Done!

Very well done. You've turned some of your "scrap pile" into a beatuiful box. The knot on the top really looks great. Nice job.

Brian, I think the Birch and Poplar make a great combination, your box proves that. Very Nice, I would love to see what the inside looks like.

Great job Brian. I love the flagrant display of a honkin' big knot in the middle of a delicate thing like a small box. Thanks for posting.

I cheated … although I used a Jointech system; I used the Incra templates as I couldn’t figure out which one of the Jointech templates to use. If any one can point me in the right direction I would sure appreciated it.
