I think I have a lot of work to do both on my turning and on my picture taking. This is the first piece I would call complete that I have turned. Its a dish/plate about 3/4" thick and 6" diameter. The picture doesnt show it, but there is some good curl in the maple. Finish is sanded and coated with mineral oil. It was a lot of fun to do since my daughter watched me do it. I gave it to her to put knickknacks in on her dresser.

Please advise on form, finish, or anything else.

Jason, it looks like a beautiful piece of wood and I believe you gave it some nice form, from what I could tell (pics were a bit small). I'm not the finish expert but you are definitely off to a great start! Let's continue to see more as you go. :)

You give me hope. I'm still in the "why in the world did it do that" stage.

Thanks for all the comments. Im in the process of turning a post or spinde for a shaker candle stand. I have the blank glued up, turned round, and am waiting to dive in on the forming of the shape. After that I have a piece of cocobolo that I am going to "turn" into a bottle stopper and cork screw set. I want to play with the friction polish with that one. And I need to stock up on my sandpaper grits.

Thanks again.

Nice plate, Jason. I haven't made one yet. You've given me some motivation.
