OK...off the top of my head...I'm put off by 2 of the 3 reviews which say the mitre gauge function isn't reliable and has to be manually verified prior to cutting. Sure every mitre saw needs set up and verification but I'm also considering the fact it's a sliding mitre saw. Do you really need that aspect? I've got a non slider and there aren't that many times I need the extra travel.

What I'm getting at is it's probably better to buy a more accurate non-slider for the same amount of $. It's frusatrating for any woodworker, especially soneone relatively new, to have innacurate miters - it's such a critical aspect in some work.

I've only recently been to a Harbor Freight store - never knew there was one near me - and my first impression is that they have better quality for the price than Norther Tool, which I have been to. Try looking them up on the web.

From what I have seen in general of Northern Tool brand stuff it is similar to the Harbor Freight stuff. I buy a lot of stuff at Harbor Freight, but I probably wouldn't buy a miter saw there. I had a 10" Delta for my first miter saw which was great--not a slider though. Now I have a non-slider PC which is great as well. With both though, I found I get better cuts from the table saw and a really good miter gauge. I mostly use the MS for breaking stuff down.
