Guess That Wood

A friend gave me this piece of wood he found in the loft of his garage, he has no idea what it is but it probably came from a locally grown tree (Southeast Virginia).
Curious as to what you guys think it is.

I didn't know how long this was sitting around but it still felt wet inside. I guess i'll sticker it for a year or so.

It is definately Walnut. In the future you may want to put a picture of the end grin in as well. End grain is used as much for wood id as the face. You can tell if it is a ring porous wood like oak and ash or a diffuse porous wood like maple, birch, and walnut.

Yeah, thats what I thought. Well it will go into storage for awhile until it dries and I figure out what to do with it.
