Hi, guys. I've about worn out my Henry Taylor 1/2" bowl gouge and am considering either the Ellsworth 1/2" or P&N's 1/2" Supa Gouge . I like the fingernail profile and am wondering if the P&N is suitable for that kind of grind or if I should try the Ellsworth. Thanks for your input.

Ed,
I am not sure about this. You may be comparing two different size gouges. Henry Taylor ½" is the measurement of the flute width; the actual bar size is actually 5/8". The P&N uses American measurement; the ½" refers to the diameter of the round stock. It is a smaller size gouge.

Ed, the 5/8" P & N Supa gouge is the same diameter as my 1/2" Crown Ellsworth gouge. The P & N's U shaped flute is a little wider at the bottom, but takes a fingernail grind just fine with my Ellsworth jig.

Been using the Ellsworth gouge for a year now , until last weekend when I took his class, I did not know you can make 5 cuts with the tool . Really impressed with his gouge and his course!!
