I haven't showed these pics until now....the back of the doors on Stan's cabinet have two jewel like crystal formations,,,they are like amber and feel like a precious stone...I left them in...Shedua is from Africa...hence Nile

Fascinating stuff Mark. Is this a pocket caused by the tree, such as an build up of sap? Or is itcaused by insects?

Very interesting. Did you have to replace your planer blades after discovering that?

No they are cutting fine...I think the doors went through the drum sander and then I used a hand scraper on the jewels

What a cool find, Mark. Have you seen that before?

Hard to tell by the pictures, but the jewels appear to be on a glue joint between 2 panels. If so, how did they behave on the Jointer/Handplane.

In the same way teak can be embedded with sand that it acquires from the soil, maybe this wood did something similar.

Very cool, way better than the once or twice I've exposed what I supposed was buckshot

John , the sand in teak is not really visible ...it just ruins your jnives and blades

Really neat and glad you left them. I found a bullet in some walnut I planed last year and used it for bed rail. Never found any jewels, though.

Facinating. An excelent special detail.

What I like about this detail is that you understated it's effect on the piece of furniture.

Many people would have prominently displayed it on the front side of the door for all to see.

Placing it on the inside makes the design element a bonus.

Mark is no exception to the fact that most members here have very good taste in their woodworking projects. Most of what I see here, I hope to be able to just come close to in the future.

I really enjoy seeing projects like this, they inspire me to do what I do when building for other people.
