Been wanting to try one of these for a while.
So the other day I actually had some turning time!
I went to my wood pile outside and grabbed a piece of Silver Maple from the tree loaded with Ambrosia markings that I got back this summer. This piece has maybe one or two small blobs of the markings but had some nice spalting on one end and some nice curl.
It is 14 3/4 Tall X 6 3/4 wide.
Buffed Antique oil finish.
Critiques Welcomed!

I like that form Jim! Somewhat organic....reminds me of a rain drop trying to release itself from a leaf.....at the moment of release....Does it hold water?

Beautifully done!

Spectacular Jim!!!

I sincerely hope you are starting a "series" of these as I can't wait to see how you handle the next few.

And the size, and wall thickness:eek: Can you say "Cover Shot"!

It is obviously a very nice piece but what got my attention is the simple angle cut at the top to make a pitcher spout. So simple but so nice.

Awsome peice! I'm still learning so please don't mind the stupid question. What tool did you use to hollow it out? It flows very nicely. Awsome finsh as well.

Joash

Joash it is completely hollowed out.
The spout is the thickest part of the turning with it being spalted and borderline punky I left this part a little thicker, and its just under 1/4" the rest of the form is just slightly thinner.
As for how I hollowed it out, I will let you be the judge.
Here is the bottom.

That's one of your best pieces I've seen Jim. It's sort of a unique shape that you don't see turned very often, especially in that size. It really has a nice flowing curve to it and the angle of the top opening really sets it off. I'm curious, did you cut the top angle before or after turning?

John Hart

And you even took the time to texture the foot. Sheesh. That's awesome Jim.

Jim this is wonderful! I love the lines and natural flow of the form and your wood choice really makes it. Great Job!:)

Thanks Curt! I cut the top after turning
And I would like to thank all of you for the nice complements!
