View Full Version : 980 rpm is too fast

I realize that this speed is too fast for most turning othre than pens and small bonkers from already rounded wood.

Can I attach a rheostat the to lathe? Will that decrease my horse power? What the pros and cons of somethinng like that?

You can't use a rheostat on an induction motor, you can however use one on a universal motor, this is one that has brushes such as drill motors and the like. Be carefull using router controllers and the like. You will burn one of them up.Hope this helps
