Man I can not stress the importance of this next statement.
WATCH SOMEONE TURN AND SHARPEN!!!
I had started turning on a couple of pieces only to realize my tools were way too dull and not using the correct angle of attack on the tools. I went to a seasoned vetrans house last night and he showed me how to sharpen my tools and also a short lesson on turning. WOW how much I didn't know that will improve me in just 1 hour. I will be returning and watching again. But I must stress, watching a person who knows what they are doing will be very beneficial to you.
Also join a local lathe club and go to it!
I have learned more in the two days spent in lathe club and at the man's house than what I had learned in about 50-60 hours of reaserch in books and the internet!
