I started this one a couple weeks ago from a whole log section of spalted River Birch. It was just punky enough that I had to give it a good coat of gel poly before I made the finishing cuts. 13 1/2" tall by 13" diameter, walls just under 1/2". Buffed gel poly finish, inside painted flat black.

That is one of the coolest pieces of wood I have ever seen. That has character!!!!! Very well done. I hope I can turn things half as nice as that.

Travis, that is nothing short of spectacular!

Now when do you plan to come out with your own signature gouge?

Absolutley beautiful! I'm curious, how long did that take you to make? I only have a mini lathe so That size is just a vision for me. Although I did get a shopsmith but it's missing parts.:o

Travis that is one georgeous piece. I looking at my river birches with a new appreciation...nothing that size though but then again doesn't have to be right.

That is a beauty. River birch is nice when it is spalted like that. I was riding down the road today and pointed out a river birch to my helper. I remarked that is was pretty much a worthless tree, but you proved me wrong, thanks for letting me see this one Travis.

Just beautifull!! A one of a kind.......never have I seen a peice like this before!! And the size!! WOW!! Would have loved to see that when you started the first roughing cut!! Did you use a steady rest?? hanging out that far from the motor, the first few cuts going in would have been exciting:D:D

Great work!!
