I just picked up an older Disston back saw and wanted to clean it up. I think it is from the 1950's by the madallion. My first back saw and I picked it up for $19...:D Pics to come...

Hi Tom,
I only remove the handle if I have to. I start with a single edge razor and scrape most of the rust off. Then I put wet dry paper on a piece of 2x4 I start a bit coarse at 220 others recommend 320. After wiping the saw off I put a coat of paste wax on it. A lot of people warn about over cleaning. I think it is a personal preference.

That doesn't look very dirty. Did you find that locally or on ebay?
The saw that I brought to the last MCWW meeting looked much worse before I started cleaning it.
