Hello everyone!

I am collecting demographic information on the membership here at
SawmillCreek--all I need is your ZIP code. Don't worry, the field is
hidden from others, and won't be shared with anyone (as our Terms of
Service clearly states).

Simply follow this link:
http://www.sawmillcreek.org/profile.php?do=editprofile

..and enter your ZIP at the bottom of the page. I am compiling a visual
map (with colored dots) on the distribution of the SMC membership. I
will share the world map with everyone when it is finished. Again, the
dots will remain anonymous.

Thanks!

Any questions? Post them here or send me a PM.

Or if you don't have a US ZIP, feel free to approximate your latitude and
longitude. This can be done using Getty's Thesaurus of Geographic Names,
which can be found here:
http://www.getty.edu/research/conducting_research/vocabularies/tgn/ (http://www.getty.edu/research/conducting_research/vocabularies/tgn/)

Enter your city under Find Name, and click Search. Then find your
city in the listing; following the link will give you your earthly position.
You'll have to send this information to me in a private message by
clicking here: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/private.php?do=newpm&userid=111 (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/private.php?do=newpm&userid=111), as it
won't fit in the ZIP field provided on the profile page.

Thanks again!

Here'e some more stats you can add to your demographics: :D

- Partial hair loss, but graying if not already gray
- Pot belly, or working on it
- Frugal with $$
- On average, 9.9 fingers
- Would rather be doing woodworking than doing their day job (unless they've already taken the plunge!)

Todd. (3 out of 5)

Actually I have plenty of hair but the belly more than makes up for it. I don't have any $$$ - I have 2 bandaids on my fingers from last night in the shop & I WOULD DEFINATELY RATHER BE DOING WW'ING THAN MY DAY JOB :D

Great idea Aaron - can't wait to see the final results.
Since you don't have enough to do already  Couldn't you make the privacy deal an opt out. In other words If we didn't check the opt out box we could have our names listed. I know some people won't like it but I like knowing where people are from. You could make it a mouseover kind of thing where if you put your mouse over a pin it will list anyone in the area. Just a thought - it's a lot of work & certainly understandable if you can't do it.

Aaron,
I'm not sure if it's just me, but I am getting an error message stating "You have entered an invalid birthday" in the ZIP Code field after submitting the modification. Is it my error?

Thanks!

Keith

That's strange-- 29 users have submitted theirs successfully thus far.
Try again and see if you still get an error-I've increased the field length.
If you do, send me a PM and I'll investigate the issue further.

Pardon my stupididity, but what does "PM" for other than post menstrual or post meridian?

Lynn,

PM = Private Message.

There is a button link at the bottom of each message titled 'pm'.

Could also be pre-menstrual or prime meridian!!

Lynn -- "PM" stands for Sawmill Creeks Private Messaging feature.

Messages can be sent to and received by our members. It is kinda like an internal e-mail system. Used to communicate privately with other members. You must enable receiving PM's in your User CP Options - click the "user cp" button at the top of this page to set your options.

Hmmm...Verrrrry Interestink!!

When I followed the link, then clicked on the field to enter my ZIP code, I accidentally did a double-click--lo and behold, my CORRECT ZIP code appeared in the field. Of course, it may have something to do with the fact that my location was already filled in with my city and state of interest, but it was kinda cool nonetheless. Try it--you might like it!!

Jason,

You must have the charm.

I double clicked, right clicked, left clicked, triple clicked and nothing happened. I had also entered my city and state above but still nothing like you got.

I then did an analog input of digital data and now my zip is registered.

May have been a false alarm. I think the field had been there before, and I had used it, so either my computer remembered it, or theirs did.

Sorry if I got anyone overly excited.

I had the same problem but noticed it lost part of my birthday. Entered zipcode and birthday info and updated without issues.

Everyone:
This is going great.. 174 Users so far and counting.

Lynn: Private Message :), or Perl Module to us geeks.

Keith Starosta and others with Birthday problems:
Turns out this is a little vBulletin bug. I'll fix it soon as I get a chance,
but until then, do as Ralph Conner did and re-enter your Birthday
Information in the Birthday field, along with your ZIP code in the ZIP field.

Thanks!

Hi,

We don't have ZIP codes here in Canada, we have postal codes that are Alpha-numerical.
Not sure if your system accepts it/??

Take care,
Jim

I invite you to read the smaller print at the bottom of the original post for directions regarding members without US ZIPs. (Longitude and Latitude will work for me). I just happen to have those values for US ZIPs. ;)
