Here are a couple pens made from those new Tropical materials that Arizona Silhouette, Woodcraft, and others are marketing.
They turn great, just like any other acrylic. Just be careful not to go too deep. I found that these turned down to the bushings without any trouble at all. No finish, just wet sanded to 12000.

They also offer a Mother of Pearl, and White coconut version. They're nice, too.
