Howdy everyone,

Ya'll probably remember my earlier threads of the new pulpit for our church. Here's post number 1...

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=46125

And here is post number 2..

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=48224

Over the last week or so I got the pulpit sanded and stained. I used the same foormula that I did on the other church projects which is 1/2 dark walnut and 1/2 cherry oil stain. I followed that with 4 coats of wipe on satin poly sanding in-between with 320 and a gray scotchbrite pad. Once all the poly was on I used a worn scrotchbrite pad and lemon oil to rub out the finish. Here are some pics......

and here it is in it's rightful place.

Overall I am pleased with how it turned out. It was certainly a challenge!!! Getting all these miters to fit right was a tedious and time consuming thing to do but I kept my focus on why I was building it and who I was actually buidling it for and that helped me get through just fine. Today is the unveiling. Only you folks, my family and my buddy Matt who helped me get it setup yesterday has seen it so hopefully it will be well recieved.

Hope ya'll enjoyed watching the process!!!!!!

Thanks,

Terry

Stunning Terry. Not much else to say but you spent way to much time at the mitre saw.

Please let us know how it is taken. To the WW crowd this is an amazing project accomplishment. To the spiritual WW it is up there with some of the best we have ever seen of any. Thanks for sharing with us all this time.

Thanks everyone!!!

The first and second sermon has been delivered in the new digs. Everything went fine. :D It was well recieved. Apparently it's a new communion table next. :)

I told my wife that one of these days I'm not going to go to church with tools and a tape measure in my pocket...she said..." no your not". :D I guess I've been appointed official church furniture maker which is a very good thing to be. It's very nice to be able to give something back when so much has been given to me.

Terry,

You did an outstanding job! I am impressed with your work. What does it weigh?
I made a podium for Caterpillar but as you can see in the picture it doesn't compare to the pulpit you just completed.

Terry,

Really impressive work. Well executed and nicely finished. My own efforts pale in comparison!

Our church seems a lot smaller and my pulpit follows a more Arts & Crafts, Greene & Greene style. No fancy miters, but dozens of M&T joints and square pegs!

Your work always impresses me! Keep it up. :D

Outstanding work Terry! The thing looks really heavy....is it? All the better for stability I guess. Glad to see your still hanging around the Creek.

Beautiful! too beautiful. All the wood workers will be drooling over the craftmanship instead of listening to the minister.

Thanks again everyone!!!!!

It was truly a labor of love. I don't think I have ever seen a bigger smile on our pastor's face. :D

It is heavy. Around 280 lbs. according to my bathroom scale and it is very stable. I was a little concerned that it would be top heavy but it really isn't.
