Made these 9 Cigar pens this afternoon. I actually turned 10 but one of the kits had missing parts so I was only able to assemble 9. They are zebrawood, bloodwood, cherry, rosewood, wenge and phillipine ebony.

Ok (with all due respect) "old man"!!! Now, you've thrown down the gauntlet. Later tonight, I'll be posting the produce of my hands for the day.

Stay tuned....

(By the way - good job!) Will any of them work for a lefty?

Will white pine work for a pen, or is it too soft?

Todd.

Todd. I never tried pine. I would think it would be way too soft and would not stand the wear and tear.

....as usual! So what, is that about 3 or 4 an hour? Man, you can certainly kick those things out! I've never done any of the cigar pens, but even the thinner profile ones take me a heckuva' lot longer! Guess I need to practice a LOT more to catch up to your speed. Keep them pics coming....

I don't know about keeping them coming - I am getting some rath about too many posts and too much graphics. I think I will just read posts for awhile. (No graphics on this post)

Ken,

Have not heard of Phillipine Ebony. How does it compare to the African varieties?

Ken,

Very nice pens... And I love reading your posts (graphics, personality and all) :)

BTW, what's the difference between the Cigar pen and the European style pen?? (very new at this)

KEN!!!

You can't let a little thing like that keep a good man down! Keep posting them pic's, I only need 175 more to catch up so watch out!! :D I like the pens. I'll send you a pic of what I'm making for the EOP get-together when I finish it. It's something I found at BEREA HARDWOODS.

Joe - If you ignore them, they will leave.

Good Job Ken,
Glad to see another fellow woodturner on the Saw Mill. Maybe the adminstrators will have a Turning section like Woodcentral. I do some wood pens all in the bic holder style. GT

Phillipine ebony is not as consistently black like african ebony. It has some dark brown streaks though it. Very beautiful wood and finishes fantastic. Very expensive though.

Actually I don't consider myself a "woodturner". I think woodturning is just using another shop powertool to make wooden stuff. Contrary to belief I spend more time making flat stuff than I do making round stuff. You can see a small sample of my flat stuff here:

Web site is not new -- I have had it for a long time. That link is just to a small portion of it.

Randy,

The Cigar pens are much larger in diameter. They both use Parker style mechanisms. Here are pics of both styles:

Ken,

Thanks, I've managed to make the european style but was wondering how the cigar pen would look and feel. I think I'll stick with the Euro Style. Thanks for the pics though. they look great.

(No graphics on this post) Ken I don't know why the rath about the posts and the graphics. Your posts are great and very informative to a newbe like myself. The graphics are very humorous and enjoyable at least by me and I'm sure many others. As for my pen talent I'm learning. I've made a total of 27 pens all European Style and I've even manage to sell 4 of them. I'm not in your league but someday! If you choose to post less and without graphics thats your choice, however I foreone have read them all and will continue.
