Spalted Nailwood
9x9 inches
Shellawax
Beall buffed

I should have gotten the point when I saw sparks coming from my chainsaw. Nah, that would have been too easy. I decided I needed to ruin a band saw blade too.

This was so much fun to do I can't get over it!

Thanks for the remarks!

Steve,

After nearly filling my pants turning the bottom on a jam chuck, I decided to go au natural.

I'm new to turning so my question is, how did you hollow that beautiful peice out?

Pete, I believe it is one of your best! Beautiful form and wood (worth the ruined band saw blade, you probably needed a new one anyway) The wood and finish is magnificent!:)

Bill,

I used a captured system which I'm sure you can find out a ton of information by searching the posts on this site. I am just a beginner and am afraid I would misstate something but there are some wonderful artists here that you can learn from.

Well worth a chainsaw sharpening and a new bandsaw blade. That's a dandy Pete!

Beautifully done Pete! The wood and the form and the finish are real eye-catchers. You nailed it.:)

First HF, huh? Guys like you just make me sick!!! :D Well done, Pete! I'm afraid that if I'd have ruined a chainsaw (blade?) and a BS blade, that puppy wouldn't have survived to even see the lathe! Well done, my friend! :)

Very nice Pete, especially for your first. In your other post on this where you had it mounted on your lathe, I expected it to be reversed, with the opening being on the bottom. Nice surprise.:) :)

Thanx,
That was my intention when I started but the more I looked at the wood, the more I like it this way.

Beautiful looking piece Pete. Good call on the direction of the vessel. I'm with John - my next tools after the chainsaw and band saw blade would have been the sledgehammer and a match.
Great job.
