I was hoping to see some segmented work from other members. It's obvious there is some incredible talent here. You all do some very nice stuff. I'm starting my 4th vessel this week but I'll be gone for a few days. I'm hoping to have it done by next weekend.

BIll.......Go to the members list.........look up the name Keith Burns.....select "find all threads started by Keith Burns"......Keith has done a number of segmented turnings and they are all beautiful IMHO.

A while back, Keith sent me this very generous gift. I love it and it has earned a spot on the piano. (a difficult position to attain);) I tried really hard to find a flaw. It is perfect.:)

I'll also suggest you look at Malcolm's website.........Very inspirational to a beginning turner.....or make you want to sell your lathe and tools depending on your current mood!

Bill, here's a photo of one of my recent pieces (last summer). The figure 8 has 8,888 pieces of wood and stands about 26" tall.

Thanks.

It's about 6" tall and made from curly maple, bubinga and maple burl. The finish is waterlox. It has a grand total of 85 pieces.

Bill, my idea of segmented work is when a piece blows apart on me while turning......

Very impressive everyone! Most definatly. Mr. Tibbetts you are amazing! I can only hope to be that talented some day. I'm working on a vessel thats less than 6" tall and has what I thought would be around 200 peices but it's turned out to be around 300 peices. Right now I'm in the glue up stage but I'll put up some pics soon. Again, all of you are extremely talented and quite an inspiration. As most of you know I've only been turning for a few weeks but with all the talent I see here I'll be filled with great ideas for years to come.:D Keep em coming everyone.

Mr. Tibbetts I was just curious, how long did it take to make that work of art? I also saw your website and I was particulary impressed with the chess table. Also the infinite ring peices. Your immagination is amazing. I know i said it before but you are all an inspiration.:D Mr Tibbetts i'd like you're opinion of my first segmented peices if you don't mind.

Wow Randy - great looking sphere! Have to ask what you used to hold it while turning, a vacuum chuck or what? What woods did you use and what finish? Again, very nice work!

Also, notice that this was your first post - so, Welcome to the Creek and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

What a display of artistic talent this thread has revealed! My humble pens, etc. keep me busy, but the art I see here has made me wonder what all the little pieces left over could be made into. Off to the scrap box! Now I know what can be done, perhaps not by me, but oh, what inspiration!

Hi Randy,
Nice sphere, but I've already told you that. I also just recently found this site.

Thanks for the comments.

Yup...that was my first post. Great site. I found it a few weeks ago while doing some research on a tablesaw.

The woods used are maple, purpleheart, yellowheart, and walnut. Was mostly turned between centers, held at the poles. Then the poles plugged and turned between leather-lined "cup" chucks for finial turning and sanding.

Almost done with another one...will post in the next day or two.
