:) As a pastor, I lead a lot of memorial services, where we combine our grief in loss with our joy in celebrating a person’s life. One more time yesterday, at Riverside National Cemetery, I heard a son talk about his dad saying, “He taught me woodworking” and “He gave me my love for working wood.” Over my last two decades in this job I have heard these grateful words again and again.

So I want to thank the dads, the granddads, and now the moms and grandmothers, for taking the time to teach sons and daughters how to make beautiful sawdust. You may never know that this is one of the two or three most important things that your offspring will remember.
