I've been leerking here for awhile & have acquired a lot of information and I thank everyone for that. Now I have a question. For cutting miters at various angles do you use a CMS (compound miter saw) or your tablesaw with the miter gauge. If you use the table saw what aftermarket miter gauge do you use & why ?

Tablesaw with a Jessem miter gage. I bought the Jessem after looking at several at the IWF show last summer its heavy, accurate, and easy to set.

Critical joints are cut at the table saw with a sled. I don't use my CMS for anything "critical"...

YMMV, but my CMS isn't very accurate, so I use the TS for the important stuff and only pull out the CMS for long molding or piece > 7'...which is rare.

I agree with Jim. I use an Icra 1000SE miter gauge.

At some point a piece gets too long to do easily on the TS.

I've been researching miter saws for awhile and have settled on the 12" Delta 36-422L.

It's not a slider, can cut a 2x10, and reviews on Amazon from a couple of furniture makers say it's very accurate.

They said that unlike the sliders, which will deflect a mm or two when you pull sideways on the head, which I've observed and was apalled at, the Delta is very solid.

My 10" DeWalt non-slider does well even with tricky angles although you do have to take care with the set up. It is not 'plug and play' so to speak. I should also state that I don't miter thick stock very often; usually 4/4 X ??? or less.

If the piece is manageable on the table saw, that's where it gets cut. Incra 3000 Miter Gauge and Incra Miter Express sled. Compared to my SCMS, the TS setup is solid, accurate, and repeatable.
