Took awhile for the Watco to dry before I could buff it out and submit photos.

Wanted to find out if I it was possible to make a bowl out of a cut-off from a cherry log. Bowl has 3 coats of Watco ‘Natural’ and I gave it almost 2 weeks to dry as my shop is a comfortable 53 degrees.

Wow! That is beautiful!

Are there any tricks to end grain turning? I've got a few slices from a cedar tree I didn't know what to do with.

Great minds? Last piece of 2006, took a week to dry from green, two coats of shellac and working. Probably be playing with a couple more when the first coat of finish gets on the 5-drawer I'm dovetailing now. Nerve-racking stuff, that. Turning's more fun.

Sorry, also small at 5.5 x 2.5 .

Another great one Steve!

You must have a lot of time with no snow to push.

It is 50 degrees down here right now.

Ah, Bonnie, I'm no expert - this was my first attempt at an end grain bowl. Really didn't do anything different other than keep my gouge really sharp and make light passes. Course, attitude could of had something to do with it also. The piece had checking all through it and I figured if it blew up - well, then it blew up - didn't care either way as I just wanted to turn it and see what would happen. Ended up OK and was a lot of fun!

That's a really pretty bowl George! Amazingly thin walls! Nice job!
(Man, I wish I would learn to proof-read what I write before I post it!! Was missing 'r' in the word 'pretty'. Sorry about that!)
