So I saw a plane that I had never even heard of today. Fellow says he bought it for $12 and it was rusted to death. Looked good to me, course he had cleaned it all up. What can you tell me about it other than the handles pivot?

that is the "carriage makers" plane...

Used for making raised panels, bevels, etc. today....with the open sides you can get right to the scribe or saw line with the blade.

Roy and Jonathan thanks for the info. Just had to ask in case I'd just seen the "Holy Grail" and didn't say the appropriate words:)
