Dumb Sander Question...

Hi all, new to the Mill and to woodworking.

I have a DeWalt palm sander with variable speed control. I tend to use to slower speeds with coarse paper (40 - 60 Grit) and faster speeds on the finer grits (120 and above). Am I doing this correctly?

I will slow my dewalt down with coarse grits as well. but with 120 and better I usually keep it full speed.

It seemed to be working well for me so I'll guess I'll just keep on doing what I've been doin'.
