This piece of Cherry came from a turner I met via the day job in Conn. It was old and dry. I spend quite a bit of time studying the raw chunk trying to get the most from it as I prepared to mount it. About 3/8 thick wall and pretty consistent. Holes all over the place. I am glad I raise the rim just a bit to add contrast/shadow. Ken got to see this one so he can vouch for me. Pretty proud of this one.

Nicely Done Frank. Very cool piece. I really really want to do a fragmented hole-filled HF very soon. Just gotta find the right tree!

I took the liberty of messing with the colors in your pics. Did I hit this right?

Thanks Everyone. This one really made my week. I emailed picts to the guy who gave me the burl. He replied with 'I can't have anymore'

John, you did enhance those pictures thank you. I am still playing with my photo tent. Yesterdays pictures are better. My backdrop is the backside of Christmas wrapping paper. Better than the dark material I bought.

Wow - the extra time you spent studying it really paid off. Great job with an amazing piece of wood. Any chance that since your 'supplier' isn't going to let you have any more that you can give him my address ??;)

Frank you have every right to be proud of this one. I like the small foot, and the curve you put on it seems just right for the piece. BTW, what are the dimensions, and finish?

Good Morning

About 6" tall.

I used the Trent Bosch midi tool set and his purple handle, free hand. Yep I still need to set up a captured system. I did a little shear scaping of the inside with my Sorby Hollowmaster.

Finish: Watco Danish oil. I put the piece on a disposable plastic plate and drenched it with oil. Then mopped up the run off and wiped it on. I performed this operation about 10 times over the course of about two hours. Oil ran out of it for several hours afterwards which I just buffed off with a paper towel.

Thanks again for all the nice comments.
