I have engraved a few slate signs and they come out a nice white. I am sorry I have no pictures but it doeas look nice people seems to like the look a lot too.

IT is a bit mess and in the dust but nothing that can not be cleaned.

Hey Dennis,
Nice work!
Thanks for posting.

Did you do any color fill/painting to the cards or are they natural?

What is 12x12 black slate going for these days?

Is it flat or or natural texture with ridges?

Thanks,

There is no color added, the blacker the better. The slate is gauged (backside ground) face is natural. Price around $3.00.Being a natural stone of differing density and color it is sometimes challenging.

Thanks for the info Dennis. I get my premium black marble for around
$7-8.00 for a 12x12 so I may pick some up and see how they compare.

The slate that I grew up with has a tendency to flake on the edges, if hit or chipped.

Have you had any problems or do you frame them quickly?:)

Dennis,

What type of laser did you use and what were the power and speed settings? Those are gorgeous.

Thanks,
Cary Fleming

Unless the slate is constant in colour , it engraves either dark or white or both , as the image crosses to various darker or lighter patches it changes colour in my experience.
We only use the laser to do masks for sandblasting on most stone , only using the laser for consistent stuff. Also takes a long time on some stone , you have to use low speed and high power to get any marking at all.

Hey Cary, I use a 100 watt ULS Run 100 speed and 15-20 power. A friend of mine uses Epilog 45 watt he runs I think around 30-40 power 100 speed. The slate needs to be as black and consistent in texture as possible. We both use PhotoGrav DPI 200, Image density 3 on the ULS. Have Fun Dennis
