Too many fisherpersons in this family!

I thought make lures would be a good idea for Christmas presents. I did get all the turning done before Christmas so I could show the turned forms but I'm just starting to get the finished lures out of the paint shop.

I picked up the kits from Penn State. If I ever turn another lure I will simply purchase the hardware and make it but there is a certain comfort to having a kit the first time. I cut all the blanks out of 2 BdFt of Basswood I picked up locally for 2.95 a BdFt.

There are four different styles. These are the "raw" turned lures.

The first batch out of the paint shop (a.k.a A pizza box on the kitchen counter) are the diving lures. This is after painting as I begin to attach the hardware.

And finally, completed diving lures.

Just coming out of the paint shop now are the Bucktail lures. I'll update this thread when I finish each style.

As always, thanks for looking.

I don't do the fishing thing, but those are very sharp! Nice job, both on the turning and the great air-brush work!

Very nice lures. Have a couple of students that are quite the outdoorsmen. They are pushing me towards turning some lures for I think Northerns. Anyway, do you seal your paint with a clear coat to eliminate water problems? Thanks for any and all help.

This may be a stupid question, but that never stopped me before. How'd you get those iridescent hexagons on there?

Nice lures David! Thanks for posting the pics. I'd think getting chomped by a lunker would be the ultimate praise to your skill;)

I hate fish, they stink ! That being said, those are great lures with a great paint job. I hope , and this is a compliment, that they never touch the water:) :)

very nice David! I am a newbie turner - been fishing for 30 years and want to turn my own plugs. I now have all the equipment - just need to find time.

David, I've made a few lures with my son. Shape wise, they turned out great, but how in the word do you paint them so nice? Can you elaborate on the supplies and techniques you used to paint them? Thanks. Lars
