Grinder shields - are the ordinary plexiglass?

Are the small transparent shields that come on bench grinders made of ordinary plexiglass?

Mine appear to be even less than that. If I was going to replace, I'd consider lexan.

Polycarbonate, aka lexan, is the prefered material. Plexy will break! Lowes/ Borg sell polycarbonate in 1/8" thickness. Often there a small scraps that will do what you want, free for the asking. But you do have to ask.
